May Tricks De-coded
Recently I saw the movie The Da Vinci Code. I had read the book a year ago, and I felt that the movie was very well made, baring a few inconsistencies with the book. I also saw the public out cry before the movie was released and felt, why this out cry and why now. Couple of years ago there was a trilogy of movies which talked about exactly what the The Da Vinci Code talks about, and there was no public out cry. Why?
The movie I am talking about is The Matrix Trilogy! Surprised? Let me explain. First let me refresh your memory (if you are a die-hard fan of The Matrix you will know what I am talking about).
Do you remember the underground city Zion? Everyone in Zion has been freed from the matrix and knows about the “One” or Neo. In the third part, Neo is shown as representing Jesus Christ. Thus the people in Zion know about “Neo” who is a descendent of Jesus Christ. In The Da Vinci Code, the Priory of Sion know about the blood line of Jesus Christ, and also know about Sophie who is the decendent of Jesus Christ.
The agents in The Matrix are none other than the monks of Opus Die who are trying to kill Neo and thus destroy the blood line of Christ
Also, do you remember the Merovingian from Matrix, who is the earlier ‘One’. He is none other than the Merovingian dynasty as talked about in the Da Vinci Code who have carried the blood line of Christ ahead.
There are several such instances where one can correlate Trinity (The triangle), Morphius (One of the senecheus of the Priory) and the other characters in Matrix with those mentioned in the Da Vinci Code. I wish to write a more detailed account of the way The Matrix Director has been able to camouflage the story of the Da Vinci Code and the story in Holy Blood, Holy Grail in his movie. The above is only something that I have written off hand, without referring to any books / materials. So please excuse me for any inconsistencies.

Some things correlate yes, but then matrix becomes a very symbolic representation of the story.
Just an idea, Smith becomes the anti-thesis, Satan. But I'm not sure about christian ideology about that and reference in DVC.
I am surprised how come Dan Brown forgets to point out the apparent 'hidden secrets' of the Matrix trilogy in his book! After all he even talks about Mickey Mouse :). But however that is beyond the point. The fact remains, the so - called 'truths' are 'hidden' in the Matrix & hence obviously not visible to ordinary man. DVC seeks to unravel these mysteries and bring it in public glare. Hence the public [and vatican] outrage.
Now I am not trying to support the outrage in any manner whatsoever... [I actually liked the book a lot] but I hope I am able to present why the Matrix never attracted the ire of the average catholic!.

I do not agree with you on the similarities of the Matrix and the Da Vinci Code. The only two connections are that both deal with a "deception" and both relate to a saviour. The Matrix is a story almost parallel to the "Saviour" story (which, by the way is not unique to or originated from Chirstianity, but had been around for centuries BC, in Mirthan and Egyptian religion. "Paritranaya sadhunam, sambhavami yuge yuge", ring a bell?). The Da Vinci Code, on the other hand is about a cover up of the line of decendants, and in no way is the current "grail" considered a saviour. As you will see from the book, the protectors of the grail rejoice in its mystery and enigma; the protagonists in the Matrix work against any sort of secrecy and deception.
For this reason, the Matrix did not really raise the ire of the protestors, because it is simply a reiteration of a concept that many faiths beleive in. The Code, on the other hand, indicates a malicious cover up by the biggest religious institution on the earth, a deliberate suppression of truth by a body that millions of people look up to. And even if it doesn't have a hint of truth in it, there are those that believe everything they read. :) That is why it is viewed as such a threat to the Christian religion.
